From the Couch to the Road
Do you find yourself in the position shown above a lot? Do you ever tell yourself "I should workout" or "I'll start that diet tomorrow?"Now is the time to start! Motivation and dedication are some of the hardest things about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. When a mental obstacle appears, you need to be ready to overcome it and continue forward.
1. "I'm too busy and have no time!" This statement applies to many people, but there are many solutions to this problem. You can wake up 30 minutes earlier in the morning to start your workout or split up your workout into 10-15 minute segments throughout your day. Also if you think about the time spent watching TV or on the internet, I am sure some of that time can be devoted to exercising.
2. "I don't know how to exercise" Exercising could be as simple as walking everyday! If you are looking for a plan to follow, there are hundreds of options online fitted for each individual type of person.
3. "I don't have money for a gym membership" A gym is not needed to exercise. There are various exercises you can do at home or by simply walking outside.
4. "I'm young and don't need it" or "I'm too old now, how will it help me?" Exercise is for everyone! To young people, if you put in the effort now to stay healthy it will be easier once you get older and problems start to develop. To the old and wise, exercising will help you push back problems that come with age. Exercising is the miracle elixir that will help you feel young.
5. "I don't feel safe in my area" This is a problem for people living in various parts of Memphis and is understandable. Find a partner or a group to exercise with and stay in areas that you feel completely comfortable in.
The list of excuses and mental barriers goes on and on, but it is up to you to overcome them and keep moving. Remember to start slowly to allow your body to adjust, which help prevent injuries.
