Groups to Join

As stated in an earlier post, joining a group to exercise with may help motivate you to maintain your workout plan. If you are interested in running or cycling, I know some great local groups open to new people.

1. Breakaway Running - Breakaway Running is a running specialty shop which has been part of the Memphis community since 1981. They sell a variety of running accessories, shoes, and clothing. In store, they offer specialized shoe fitting to find the best pair for each person. Their involvement in the running community is also very strong and should be able to provide any questions about the area. From Monday to Saturday, they host various group runs, which can be seen here.

2. Memphis Runners Track Club- The fifth largest member club of the national Road Runners Club of America consisting of about 3600 members. The club first came into existence in 1975 under the name Memphis Striders. Weekly group runs from Sunday to Saturday can be found here.

3. Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club- Founded in 1962, the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club is a non-profit with over 1500 members. Cycling is another great way to stay fit and explore the city of Memphis! They host various cycling events throughout the year with membership not being required at many of them. MHBC also host weekly rides open to various levels of ability. These rides and their difficulties can be found here.
